How We're Different
See what our customers are sayingCredit repair in Massachusetts works the same way it does everywhere: inaccurate, outdated, or unverifiable items on your credit reports can be disputed and, when the dispute is successful, removed. Accurate negatives (a late payment that really happened, a charge-off that’s current and verifiable) cannot be removed by anyone, full stop. Any company that tells you otherwise is not being straight with you. What a qualified credit repair company adds is a systematic, documented process for finding disputable items and pressing the bureaus and creditors to respond correctly.
White Jacobs & Associates is attorney-managed and works your file in up to four rounds, each targeting the creditors reporting against you. You’re assigned a single credit analyst who interprets your report, explains what’s happening, and keeps you updated throughout. The Investigative Research team executes the rounds. Learn more about how that process works.
Massachusetts carries one of the highest average credit scores in the country, but that aggregate masks real variation. Plenty of Bay State residents are dealing with inaccurate items, old medical collections, or delinquencies that no longer belong on their reports. The housing market here makes those issues costly.
Massachusetts consistently ranks among the top five states in average FICO score. As of late 2024, the state’s average sits around 718, compared to a national average of 715, according to Experian data. That’s a strong aggregate, but it’s an average, and averages cover a wide spread.
A credit score reflects two things more than anything else: payment history and credit utilization. On-time payments build it; missed payments damage it quickly. High balances relative to your credit limits drive utilization up, which pulls the score down. A single 30-day late payment can subtract 60 to 110 points depending on where your score started.
On credit cards, Massachusetts consumers generally track close to the national average credit card balance of $6,730 (Experian, Q3 2024). Auto debt tells a different story. The national average auto loan balance reached $24,297 in 2024, and Massachusetts buyers (facing higher vehicle prices and elevated financing rates) are well within that range. High monthly auto payments leave less room for credit card minimums, which is one of the patterns we see in files from this state.
Massachusetts had a statewide median single-family home price of $615,000 in 2024, a new all-time high, up nearly 8 percent from the prior year, according to The Warren Group. Greater Boston is sharply higher: the median single-family sale price in the metro reached $760,000 in 2024, and by mid-2025 the figure crossed $1 million for the first time. That gap between what people earn and what homes cost is what makes credit quality matter so much in this market.
MassHousing, the state’s housing finance agency, requires a minimum credit score of 640 for a single-family home or condo, and 660 for a two- or three-family property. Some programs require up to 700 depending on loan type and loan-to-value ratio. Getting from 590 to 640 is the difference between qualifying for a MassHousing mortgage with down payment assistance up to $30,000 and being told to come back later. That window is often where credit repair does its most concrete work.
The issues vary by file, but certain patterns show up consistently among clients from the Bay State.
Medical debt, utility collections, and old credit card charge-offs are common. When these are reported inaccurately (wrong balance, wrong date, wrong account status) they’re disputable. Our team reviews collections and charge-offs specifically, creditor by creditor, looking for items that shouldn’t be there in the form they appear.
A single late payment can suppress a score for years. When a late payment is reported inaccurately (wrong date, wrong account, duplicate reporting) it’s a legitimate dispute target. Our late payment strategy addresses these item by item.
Yes. Federal law gives every consumer the right to dispute inaccurate information on their credit reports. That right doesn’t expire, and you don’t need to pay anyone to exercise it.
Several federal statutes govern the credit reporting and debt collection space:
The line an honest firm will not cross: we don’t remove accurate, current, verifiable information. What we do instead is audit your report for items that don’t meet that standard (misreported dates, duplicate entries, accounts that aren’t yours, balances that don’t match, outdated derogatory marks) and build disputes around the specific errors we find.
You can dispute directly with Experian, TransUnion, and Equifax at no cost. The FTC explains your rights and the process in plain language at consumer.ftc.gov. Hiring a company is optional; what it adds is experience, volume, and a structured multi-round approach that individual disputes often lack.
The information below is general education, not legal advice. Laws change, and individual situations vary. If you’re facing a lawsuit, judgment, or garnishment, speak with a licensed attorney in Massachusetts.
Under MGL Chapter 260, Section 2, the statute of limitations for written contracts in Massachusetts is six years. This includes most loans, installment agreements, and similar arrangements. After that window closes, a creditor generally cannot sue to collect, though the debt itself doesn’t disappear.
Credit card debt in Massachusetts is also covered under MGL Chapter 260, Section 2, with a six-year window. Massachusetts courts treat credit card agreements as written contracts, so the classification issue that creates ambiguity in some other states is less contested here. That said, credit card agreements often include a choice-of-law clause specifying another state’s rules, which can complicate the analysis. If you’re assessing a specific old debt, a Massachusetts consumer attorney can review the actual agreement. The Massachusetts Attorney General’s Consumer Advocacy and Response Division (CARD) can also point you toward resources.
In Massachusetts, creditors must obtain a court judgment before garnishing wages. The state uses a process called “trustee process” to execute on wages. For most consumer debts, the garnishable amount is the lesser of 15 percent of gross weekly wages or 50 times the applicable minimum wage, whichever is less. Social Security, veterans benefits, and certain other income types are generally exempt.
Educational information only, not legal advice. If a creditor has filed suit against you or a garnishment order has been issued, contact a licensed Massachusetts attorney right away. Be aware that making a payment on an old debt (even a partial payment) can restart the statute of limitations clock in Massachusetts, potentially reopening your legal exposure.
Your assigned credit analyst is the person you talk to throughout the program. They read your report, explain what’s on it, and build the strategy around what’s disputable on your specific file. When you have questions or want an update, that’s who you call.
The Investigative Research team is the operational side. They execute the dispute rounds, track creditor responses, manage deadlines, and know the process details cold. The rounds require precision: each one builds on the last, and the documentation has to be right.
The program is attorney-managed, runs in up to four rounds over several months, and is built around your report, not a generic template. Most clients see movement in the first 45 to 60 days; most finish in six months or less, though timelines vary by file. Everything we do is on the same process page if you want to read it in detail.
Most clients finish in six months or less, with movement typically starting in the first 45 to 60 days. That said, timelines depend on what’s on the file: a report with one disputable item resolves faster than one with multiple creditors responding slowly. We don’t run the program indefinitely; it’s built around the rounds.
No, and anyone who says otherwise is misrepresenting what credit repair can do. The CFPB is direct on this point: accurate, current, verifiable information stays on your report for its full reporting period. Our work focuses entirely on items that don’t meet that standard.
MassHousing requires a minimum score of 640 for most single-family programs, and up to 700 for certain loan types. Conventional lenders typically want 620 to 680 at minimum, with better rates available above 740. Given Massachusetts home prices, even a modest score improvement can meaningfully change what you qualify for and at what rate.
Possibly. Massachusetts’s window for most consumer debt is six years under MGL Chapter 260, Section 2, running from the date of last payment or default. But choice-of-law provisions in credit card agreements can change which state’s rules apply, and if a creditor already obtained a judgment, the enforcement window extends to 20 years. For anything you’re actually weighing, a consumer attorney in Massachusetts is the right call.
No. You can dispute directly with Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion for free using AnnualCreditReport.com. What a credit repair company like White Jacobs adds is a multi-round, documented process and experienced analysis, not access to anything you can’t reach on your own.
We don’t quote pricing on a state page because the program isn’t a monthly subscription with no finish line. It’s structured around your file and built to end. The details come out in the free consultation, where we look at your actual report and give you a real picture of what we’d be working with. Book that call here.
We’re straightforward about fit because taking on a client we can’t help doesn’t serve anyone.
